Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband today demanded a CBI inquiry into the Muzaffarnagar violence saying the judicial probe ordered by the state government was not acceptable to people of the minority community.

"The judicial inquiry is a stage to save the accused," Maulana Abdul Qasim, Mohtamim (Vice-Chancellor) of Darul Uloom Deoband, said.

The judicial probe ordered by the state government was not acceptable to the people of the minority community, he said.

"The state government has proved to be a failure in protecting the people of the minority community during the violence," Qasim said.

Expressing concern over the loss of human lives and damage to property in the clashes, he said a CBI probe should be ordered into the violence.
