Press Trust of India Jorhat
Worried by deficit rainfall during its peak season in Assam, the tea industry, planters and small tea growers (STG) will make a joint move for an emergency package from the Tea Board of India (TBI) and the Union Commerce Ministry.

Different tea associations will jointly meet the TBI authority here and ask for a special package in view of the absence of adequate rain water, which is essential between March and July for tea, said Tocklai Tea Research Association vice-chairman Pravat Bezbaruah and STG president Rajen Bora.

The two tea planters said with the monsoons getting late in the state this year and such serious climate situation not experienced here in the past 50 years, an emergency package should be released for the survival of the tea industry.
