The Union Home Ministry has doubled the delegated financial powers of the Puducherry government to sanction projects, from Rs 50 crore to Rs 100 crore.

A copy of the order to the chief secretary of the Puducherry government was made public by the chief minister's office on Saturday.

The order said Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had made a request to the Union Home Ministry on August 31 regarding the delegation of financial powers for approval, sanction of projects and schemes. It has been approved and enhanced to Rs 100 crore from Rs 50 crore.

"It is felt that further re-delegation of financial powers as considered appropriate including to Council of Ministers, the Chief Minister may be in the interest of good governance and will help in smooth functioning of the government in public interest," the order said.

"It would be prudent to consider further re-delegation of financial powers conferred on Lt Governor in terms of Rule 13 (3 ) of Delegation of Financial Powers Rules 1978 to the Secretary Head of Department, Head of Office and Council of Ministers proportionately," the order added.
