Delhi government today sought cooperation in fields of infrastructure, cleaning of rivers and solid waste management from Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.
A delegation of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly today called on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and discussed several issues, including school teacher exchange programme.
"Japan and India's relationship goes back a long way in history. Similarly, the relationship between Delhi and Tokyo also is quite old. We hope to have a fruitful relationship in the days to come too.
"We look forward to Tokyo to be guided on specific areas like infrastructure, solid waste management, cleaning of rivers etc. We would also like to seek investment in Delhi from Japan," Kejriwal said in a statement.
On issues of cooperation, the delegation also replied in the positive. "We hope to further strengthen the Tokyo and Delhi relationship apart from the strong bond which India and Japan share. We have listed several areas where we can work together.
"Let's work together to resolve the problems and areas of concern like environmental issues, water, sewerage problem etc. We can have exchange programme between the two cities to take it further," said Osamu Yoshiwara, Chairman of the Association of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Members.
According to government, Osamu further wanted Delhi to help it in conserving heritage for the next generations.
He also handed over a letter from the Governor of Tokyo to the Delhi Chief Minister. The Governor in his letter has invited the Chief Minister to Tokyo.
Welcoming the delegation to Delhi, Sisodia also talked on various areas of cooperation. "We really look forward to having mutually beneficial relationship with you. We can have it in so many areas like Education, waste management, environment, engineering etc," the Deputy CM said.
Sisodia also came up with an idea for the teachers of schools in both the cities. "We can have an exchange programme of the school teachers between the two cities. Teachers of subjects like science can come to teach at Delhi schools for a couple of months and vice-versa," he added.
Later, the delegation called on Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
