Demand in LS for release of caste-based census

A number of members in the Lok Sabha, including a ruling BJP ally, today demanded release of caste-based census.

Participating in a debate on the Constitution Amendment bill on OBC, Dharmendra Yadav (SP) said the government should release the caste census.

Upendra Kushwaha, leader of NDA constituent Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) and Minister of State for HRD, too asked for release of the census.

He also wanted extension of reservation to the private sector and adequate represented to OBCs in judiciary and media.

Mullappally Ramachandran (Congress) said the census should be released as early as possible.

N K Premachandran (RSP) too asked for publishing of the data.
