Depressed cancer patient commits suicide

Upset over his continued treatment for colon cancer, a 56-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by slitting his throat at the government hospital here, where he was being treated, police said today.

Selvan, a resident of Sathyamangalam in Erode district, died last night, without responding to treatment at the government hospital, where he was admitted on August 19, they said.

Selvan was undergoing treatment felt there was no progress in his health condition and had reportedly slit his throat with a blade in his bed two days ago, they said.

Though the doctors took bleeding Selvan and provided emergency treatment, he died without responding to treatment, police said.
