A deputy engineer of the rural water supply department of Thane Zilla Parishad and another person were arrested this evening by the Thane unit of the ACB while allegedly accepting a bribe.
Inspector Hemant Patil said that Deputy Engineer Mohan Patil and ringman Prashant Kannalu had demanded Rs 10,000 from a sub-contractor to clear his bills for well-digging work.
After the contractor filed a complaint, ACB officers laid a trap at the office of the rural water supply department and caught the ringman while taking the money. It then also arrested the deputy engineer.
