Almost 61 lakhs devotees took a holy dip in the Ganga here today on the occasion of 'Somvati Badvamas'.

"A total of 61 lakh devotees converged at different ghats of the holy river including Har ki Pauri today for the ritual bath to mark Somvati Badmavas which coincided this year with Shani Jayanti giving added significance to the occasion," Haridwar SSP Sweety Agarwal said.

All the Ganga ghats were teeming with worshippers from all over the country and abroad, she said.

Besides taking a holy dip in the river, women tied cotton threads around Banyan trees praying for the well-being of their family.
