Dinesh Gupta was today appointed as the new Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), an official release said.
Gupta, an officer of the 1983 UPSC batch, took over from N Kutumba Rao to became the 47th Director General of the GSI.
Rao superannuated yesterday.
Gupta is an alumni of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad from where he did PhD in Applied Geophysics. He is an expert in mineral exploration and responsibility has been given to him to steer GSI in this field, it said.
