Do not allow packed dietary supplements for malnourished

Press Trust of India New Delhi
RSS-affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to allow packed dietary supplements to be provided to malnourished children and pushed for indigenous home augmented foods instead.

The Sangh-affiliated organisation has been opposing ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF), provided by various state governments to malnourished children in their respective states.

The SJM wants that the government should push for indigenous home augmented foods rather than these RUTF food packets, which are mixture of protein, carbohydrate, lipid and vitamins and minerals.

These food supplements will only serve the corporate interests rather than treating the malnourished children, SJM co-convener Ashwani Mahajan said in a letter to Prime Minister Modi.

Mahajan claimed that according to various studies it has been found that home augmented foods are more benefical for the children then the RUTF food packets.
