Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) today released a documentary film and a comic on child sexual abuse with a view to create awareness about steps needed to be taken to protect oneself.

The documentary film 'Thank You Ma' was released here by DCPCR chairperson Arun Mathur.

The DCPCR along with Dr A V Baliga Memorial Trust and Plan India also released a comic containing tips to protect oneself from sexual abuse and also how to approach the competent authority for support or help.

DCPCR had recently formulated 'Guidelines for Prevention of Child Abuse', which was released by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on September 6.

"While the recent law 'Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act, 2012' will prove an effective tool in deterring offenders, there is also a need to create awareness and empower children, family and the community in order to create a safe environment for children through active participation and involvement of all stakeholders," Mathur said.

According to a recent report submitted by Delhi police to the Commission, 393 rape cases had been reported between January 1 and April 7.

Most of the incidents took place in jhuggis and slum clusters (309), Parks (10), restaurant and hotels (22), public toilets (1), schools (3), Car (6), shop (3) and others (36).
