In the wake of the death of three youths during the ongoing state police recruitment drive in Kurukshetra, Haryana Staff Selection Commission today said candidates found consuming drugs in the physical fitness test will be disqualified.

Strict action will be taken against such candidates according to the rules, Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) chairman Bharat Bhushan Bharti said.

He said a special team has been constituted for this purpose and it will keep vigil on candidates. Directions have been issued to depute four doctors to examine the candidates before their registration.

The commission had already warned the applicants regarding the decision through a notification on March 16.

Bharti said over 1 lakh youths from Haryana and other states have participated in the test.

"So far 1.30 lakh candidates have participated in the physical test till July 2. The recruitment is being conducted in a transparent manner and on the basis of merit," an official release quoted him as saying.

The candidates who register themselves at 5 AM, for them the running time has already been fixed up to 9 AM, so that they can complete their 5 km race before the hot weather conditions set in during the day.

Those who register themselves by 4 PM, for them the running time has been fixed up to 8 PM.

The commission has fixed the schedule because of the prevailing hot weather, he said.

Congress had yesterday attacked the BJP government in Haryana, alleging that its "incompetence" pushed the state's youth into the "dangerous web of drug abuse" and sought a white paper on the menace and action taken against drug mafia.

Talking about the death of three youths during the ongoing recruitment drive in Kurukshetra, senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had alleged, "Terribly shocking events of drug abuse have proved that youth of Haryana are being pushed into intoxicant abuse by a cartel of drug mafia."

Three youths had died after complaining of extreme exhaustion after participating in the fitness test.
