Drug peddler held at Kaup beach

Opium, weighing 1.3 kg and worth Rs 5.2 lakh, has been seized from a person from Kaup beach in Udupi, police said.

The person, Kaloo Ram, hailing from Rajasthan and staying at Gangolli in Kundapur, is suspected to be a regular drug peddler at the beach, police said, adding, he was taken into custody yesterday on a tip-off that the drug was being sold in the beach.

He admitted during interrogation that he had brought the drugs from his home state, police said.

The raid at the beach was led by CID Deputy SP Rajan Nayak and inspector M Diwakar.
