"They used to place Rs. 2 coin on the tracks to break the signal which would turn the next green signal to red," she said.
Police and railways had put CCTV cameras at suspected vulnerable places.
During the interrogation, they confessed to have robbed rail passengers by stopping trains using this method.
They claim that as a train passes over coins placed on tracks, the next signal automatically changes from green to red, she said.
Railway authorities however claim it was not possible and are investigating whether signal can be tampered with or not by the modus operandi of the gang.
Railway officials said the gang must have tampered with the wires and cables of signal network.
Of late, the gang has been active in Dadri and had stopped trains and looted commuters between Dadri and Boraki railway stations, the police said.
Railway Protection Force had reported four such incidents in past few months.
