Eastern Command turns 94

Eastern Command, the biggest

operational command of the Indian Army, turned 94 today.

On the occasion, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen M M S Rai laid wreath at the 'Vijay Smarak', paying homage to all those who laid down their lives in the highest traditions of the Indian Army.

Addressing the Command HQ personnel, the GOC-in-C reiterated the onerous national responsibility of safeguarding the eastern territory of the nation.

The Command has its territorial jurisdiction in West Bengal and over all eight northeastern states, including Sikkim.

It is responsible for military operations along the international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Nepal.
 

Eastern Command was formed on November 1, 1920, with its summer headquarters in Nainital and winter headquarters in Lucknow.
