The Election Commission has undertaken a major awareness drive to enlist maximum number of eligible voters in the electoral roll within a specified time-frame.
Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Amitjyoti Bhattacharya said today that the Commission has arranged intensive awareness campaign as part of its stress on registration of new voters or those who have been transferred here from other places or even from different states.
With the initiative of district magistrate of North 24-Parganas, a number of new or transferred voters have got their names enlisted, he said.
The Commission also organised special awareness camps during last Durgapuja festival in collaboration with two major puja committees in Salt Lake area for inclusion of their names. Form-6 was also distributed on the occasion among those willing, he said.
Besides, the EC has undertaken programme with Doordarshan and All India Radio to intensify the awareness campaign.
