In major campaign under East Central Railway (ECR) zone, a total of 42,000 people were held travelling either without ticket or invalid ticket in the month of July this year.
A sum of Rs 1.57 crore was collected from them, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) ECR Rajesh Kumar said in a statement.
ECR comprises Danapur, Sonepur, Samastipur, Mughalsarai and Dhanbad divisions.

A total of 396 persons were caught for illegal chain pulling in trains during July and a fine of Rs 3 lakh realised from them, he said.
Cracking down on illegal vendors 662 were held and penalty of Rs 6.97 lakh collected from them under Railway Act, Kumar said.
Likewise, 688 persons were taken into custody for misbeviour with passengers and action taken against them under section 145 of Railway Act. A fine of Rs 1.55 lakh collected from them, the ECR CPRO said.
A total of 1275 persons were held on the charge of unauthorisedly travelling in women coaches.
While 639 were caught smoking in trains and Railway premises during campaign in July and penalty of Rs 1.28 lakh taken from them, he added.
