"The government is aware of the concern of pilgrims for timely commencement of the annual yatra to the 3,880-mt high holy cave shrine.

"It is doing everything possible besides reviewing the situation keeping in mind the safety of pilgrims," an official spokesman said.

All necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the pilgrimage starts in time on June 25, he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today visited Pahalgam, the base camp for the pilgrims preferring the traditional 45-km cave route, in Anantnag district to review the situation.

He would visit the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district tomorrow, the spokesman said.

Vohra, also chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board which manages the annual pilgrimage, had earlier reviewed the situation on June nine and directed the authorities to take necessary steps for commencement of the pilgrimage on time.

Special Secretary in the Union Home Ministry Ajay Chadha had also made an aerial survey of the twin tracks of the pilgrimage route on June four and five.
