Eight persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the Rs 1.13 crore robbery at an angadia firm based in Bhuleshwar in south Mumbai last month, police said today.

The incident occurred at Pokalwadi on May 29 wherein three people entered the office of the firm and robbed Rs 1.13 crore by threatening workers at knife point, said Dnyaneshwar Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2).

An offence was registered at Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station on a complaint filed by the firm owner, he said.

An angadia firm typically offers services like transfer of money, diamonds, and jewellery, within a maximum of 24 hours for a fee.

During investigation it came to light that one of the workers of the firm had given a tip-off about the cash to his friend, he said.

Chavan said the main accused had hired men from Ahmedabad and Uttar Pradesh for committing the crime.

During interrogation, it came to light that the accused persons had fled to Ahmedabad.

"When the team of Mumbai Police reached Ahmedabad, the accused persons left the city and went to Goa. On specific information, police raided a five-star hotel in Goa and arrested three accused while others were arrested from Uttar Pradesh, Ahmedabad and Mumbai," an official said.

Police have recovered Rs 92 lakh from the accused, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
