In a major breakthrough, police today arrested eight robbers including a woman, involved in the August 2 daylight robbery at Vijaya Bank branch inside the Rajiv Gandhi University campus and recovered a part of the looted cash.
Capital Superintendent of Police Seiju P Kuruvilla said here today that police recovered an amount of Rs 8.3 lakh from their possession of the total looted amount of Rs 42 lakh, the SP Said.
Police also recovered two pistols with ammunition along with two SUVs and three motorcycles used by the robbers while committing the crime, he said.

The robbers were arrested on Monday following an operation launched over the last ten days at various places across the capital and in neighbouring Assam, the SP said adding, police had formed multiple teams immediately after the incident in search of the robbers.
Those arrested were identified as Hiba Tajuk, Hiba Tagia, Bamang Taja and Bamang Jhon from Sangram and Tame Tarh Tarang from Nyapin in Kurung Kumey district.
While Raj Darlami Mogor hails from Sunaipam village under Sonitpur district from neighbouring Assam, the woman, Kapu Sat hails from Raga under Lower Subansiri district and Ngabi Tali from Kamba under West Siang district, the SP said.
The arrested were remanded to police custody for interrogation and further investigation was on, the SP said.
One more accused Hiba Sikku, is still at large, the SP said and added that informers tipping the police off on whereabouts of Sikku would be suitably rewarded.
