Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the election to the 28 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats which will be held on March three.

"Of the total 35 seats for which the notification was issued on February 8 by Election Commission, in seven seats candidates were declared unopposed. The elections for remaining 28 seats in 57 districts will be held on March 3 amidst tight security," UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Arun Singhal told reporters.

A total of 105 candidates are in fray and their fate would be decided by about one lakh voters, he said adding that 729 polling stations have been made for the purpose.

With a view to ensure free and fair elections, Central Para Military Force (CPMF) would be deployed in sensitive polling centres, which are about half of the total number, the CEO said.

"External observers have been deployed on all 28 seats and to check use of money and muscle power, 11 expenditure observer have also been deployed," he said.

He said directives have been issued to ensure that besides ballot paper, nothing could be put inside the ballot box and added that strict action would be initiated against the presiding officer and poll party in such cases.

Samajwadi Party candidates have won opposed in seven seats.
