A septuagenarian couple was today allegedly murdered by some unidentified persons at their residence in Kotim village in Dahanu in the district, police said.
The victims, identified as Navshor Ardeshir Irani (76) and his wife Nargis (74), were murdered last night and the incident came to light this morning, Wangaon police said.
"Some unidentified persons entered the Iranis' bungalow and ransacked the place. They later attacked the couple with sharp weapons following which they died on the spot," Deputy Superintendent of Police (Boisar) Vijaykant Sagar, who is heading the investigation in the case, said.

"Although the exact motive behind the killing is not known yet, we suspect that theft might be the reason," he said.
Wangaon police have booked the unidentified persons under Sections 302 (murder) and 460 (house-trespass or house-breaking by night punishable where death or grievous hurt caused by one of them) of IPC.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said, adding no arrest has been made in this connection so far.
