Electricity engineer falls in ACB net

An electricity department engineer was today arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 17,000 from an industrialist, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.

The Government engineer, Sunil D Kumawat, had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the industrialist for sanctioning a new power connection for his factory at Talasari near here, Sandeep Karnik, Superintendent of Police (ACB), said.

The final amount was later brought down to Rs 20,000. In the meantime, the industrialist lodged a complaint with the ACB which laid a trap and caught Kumawat accepting the first instalment of Rs 17,000 this evening, he said.

An offence under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the engineer at the Talasari police station.
