Elephant herd enters Nayagram area

A herd of around 33 wild elephants entered Nayagram area of West Midnapore district and destroyed crops, Forest department officials said today.

The elephant herd of Dalma forest entered the Nayagram area after crossing the Subarnarekha river last night, the officials said.

The herd destroyed paddy cultivation and watermelon cultivation in a large area, they said.

The Forest department has set up a team to disperse the elephants, they added.
