Elephant tramples woman to death in Erode dist

A 60-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant in the district early today, police said.

Chinnathayee of Vellimalai in Burgur forest area, had gone to a nearby forest region to attend nature's call when the elephant emerged from the bushes and attacked her, they said.

The woman's relatives searched her and found her body at about 8 AM inside the forest and informed the police, who along with forest officials reached the spot and conducted investigations.

Meanwhile, the Forest department granted a compensation of Rs 25,000 to the kin of the deceased.
