The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) organised a camp for opening of bank accounts and Jan Dhan accounts for craftspersons and artisans here today.
The Council took this initiative in various craft clusters of the handicrafts sector to combat the impact of demonetisation on the handicrafts sector, EPCH Executive Director Rakesh Kumar said.
The camp also aims to facilitate timely payment to the karigars and artisans who are the backbone of the handicrafts sector and also to motivate artisans and karigars to make cashless transaction, online payments and mobile banking.

Kumar said six such camps have already been organised with two each at Moradabad and Andhra Pradesh and one each at Agra and Bangalore.
EPCH is an apex organisation of trade and industry engaged in promotion of Indian handicrafts and project India's image abroad as a reliable supplier of high quality handicraft items.
More than seven million artisans skilled, semi-skilled and un-skilled work force, specially women folk and weaker section of the society, are engaged in manufacture of handicrafts.
