In a major explosives haul, police today seized more than 13,000 gelatine sticks and nearly 6,000 detonators from two vehicles near here.
The seizure was made when Police, on a high vigil following a tip-off, intercepted two speeding vehicles -- jeep and mini lorry -- near Sular on the city outskirts.
The drivers of the two vehicles managed to escape while another occupant in one of them had been detained and is being interrogated, they said.
Police seized 13,600 gelatine sticks, 5,900 detonators and 125 metres of fuse wire from the vehicles, bearing the same registration numbers.
The explosives, coming from a godown in Bhavani in neighbouring Erode district, was meant to be supplied to quarries, police added.
