Extortion money demanded from UP village headman

Police have registered a case against unidentified men for allegedly making an extortion threat to the headman of Parasoli village here.

The headman, Haji Ilyas Ansari, who is also the owner of a brick kiln, alleged in a complaint that he received a threatening call yesterday, asking him to pay up a sum of Rs 5 lakh.

In similar case at New Mandi area here, miscreants demanded Rs 20 lakhs from a trader, Vinod Kumar, over phone and threatened him yesterday, police said.

A case has been registered in this regard.

Police said they are using call records to trace the identity of the miscreants in both cases.
