Fake mobile accessories seized in Mumbai; one held

City police have confiscated over one lakh duplicate mobile batteries, headsets and other packing material worth Rs 52 lakh of a major company during a raid in a south Mumbai warehouse.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly possessing the products, police said.

The action was taken after Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR), passed on information to Pydhonie Police Station that fake Samsung mobile accessories were stored in a warehouse at Masjid Bunder and were being sold to customers and retailers as original products.

A team of policemen along with EIPR officials yesterday raided a warehouse in Narsi Natha Street at Masjid Bunder in south Mumbai, police said.
 

During the raid, police seized duplicate Samsung headsets, headset outer boxes, mobile batteries, holograms among others collectively valued at Rs 52 lakh.

Bhawanisingh Rajput, who possessed over one lakh duplicate items and was into selling them to the customers and retailers, was arrested under IPC section 420 (cheating) and other relevant sections of Copyright Act.
