Six members of a family, who were trapped under the debris of their house for two days, were rescued by local people today.

Abdul Khader's house in the town collapsed on November 12 night following heavy rain and he and his wife, son, daughter-in- law and two children, aged five and two, were trapped under the debris, police said.

Though two houses nearby had also collapsed, their inmates had managed to escape but Khader could not come out, as three side walls of the house had caved in, they said.

Since there was continuous rain and mist, workers and people in the neighbourhood did not come out from their homes for the last two days.

With climate improving today, some workers, who came out in the morning, heard their screams and managed to break a side wall and bring them out safely.

Senior district officials went to the spot and inquired about the incident.

No family member sustained any injuries, police added.
