Paddy farmers today blocked traffic on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road here, protesting against the non-procurement of their produce.
The farmers alleged that procurement officials were making excuses to procure the paddy at lower rates.
"We are being pestered under one pretext or the other by the procuring officials who are suggesting us to sell the crop at Rs 700-1,000 per quintal as against the government rate of Rs 1,345," alleged a farmer, Karnail Singh.

Singh said the officials were saying that the grains were either having higher moisture content or were discoloured.
Farmers claimed that the quality of grain was affected because of rain as crop had been lying in the grain market.
The protest was later called off on assurance from ADC Phagwara, SK Singla.
