The Labour Ministry today directed officials in charge of various projects under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to identify problems leading to their delay and fix strict timeline for their completion.

Reviewing the progress of construction activities of various projects under ESIC, Union Labour Minister Narendra Singh Tomar exhorted the project in-charges to conduct monthly review of the progress made in each project and if needed terminate the contract of the agency if they were found to be lax in completing the work.

"The minister advised the project in-charges to fix revised timelines and intermediate milestones for each project separately and conduct a monthly review of the progress made in each project in the presence of construction, architectural and engineering agencies.

"In case the construction agencies are found lax in completing the projects, show-cause notices should be served and they should be called for a final meeting. If necessary, the contract may be terminated," Tomar said.

Tomar directed the officials to speed up the work so that maximum number of new medical colleges could start functioning from 2015-16.

There are about 50 ongoing projects under execution, of which 21 are medical education projects, 15 hospital projects and 14 other projects. There are additional 48 new projects under process.

The minister said the project in-charges should identify the problems responsible for delaying the projects and fix strict timelines for solving the same.

He directed all project in-charges to reach out to the Director General of ESIC or the ministry if they were not able to solve the issue.

The meeting was also attended by Labour Ministry secretary Gauri Kumar and ESIC director general Anil Kumar Agarwal among others.
