The principal of a private school here has been booked for allegedly subjecting corporal punishment to a group of students, police said today.

An FIR was lodged against Suman, the school's principal, on the complaint of Krishan Sharma, a social worker.

According to the complaint, the principal had yesterday allegedly made students hold ears through legs and also do push ups.

Sharma alleged that when asked about the reason for such punishment, the principal did not give a satisfactory reply.

He claimed the students were also beaten up with sticks.

Corporal punishment has been banned in schools. If students commit any mistake, the teacher can call his/her parent and inform them, Sharma said.

Meanwhile, the school principal has denied that any physical punishment was given and said students had been only warned for coming late.
