Firearm, weapons seized from abandoned jeep in tea estate

A country made double barrel gun, some weapons and ammunition were seized today from an abandoned jeep inside a tea estate in Pandalur about 80 Kms from here by forest officials.

Acting on a tip-off about some persons entering a tea estate belonging to Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation yesterday the officials launched a search for them from early this morning, forest department sources said.

They found a jeep inside the estate. A person near the vehicle ran into the jungles on seeing them.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the double barrel gun, five cartridges, two big knives and a handsaw.
 

Besides, an identity card and PAN card in the name of Ali from Vazhikadavu in Kerala were also recovered from the jeep, the sources said.
