The Local Fishermen's Association today appealed to the fisheries department officials to arrange for bringing back 33 fishing boats released by the Sri Lankan Government a month ago but still in Lankan shores as they needed to be repaired.
In a memorandum submitted to the Assistant Director of fisheries Department Gopinath, Association President Emiret and secretary T.Sesu Raja said they should be allowed to go to Lanka and bring back the boats before they got damaged.
Meanwhile, fishermen claimed ten Lankan naval boats were constantly parked at Katchatheevu and they could not do their fishing in their traditional area.
Officials said though 100 boats were given permission for fishing in the sea, only 50 boats had ventured out.
