Three fishermen were reported missing today after a fishing trawler overturned close to an island near Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas district.
Twelve fishermen had left the Namkhana jetty yesterday in MV Vijaylakshmi and were returning back with their catch when the trawler got stuck near the Luthiyan Island close to Patharpratima and overturned this evening, said Amit Nath, SDO, Kakdwip.
Out of the 12 persons on board, nine have been rescued, Nath said adding a search for the three missing fishermen would be conducted tomorrow morning.
The owner of the trawler and all the fishermen on board were residents of Kakdwip, the SDO said.
