Five persons were killed and four seriously injured when the jeep they were travelling skidded off the road and hit a tree in Odisha's Dhenkanal district today, police said.
At least nine persons including the driver were returning after attending a marriage function from Siminai village near Dhenkanal to Bijadiha under Kamakshyanagar police police station when the mishap happened a few kilometres from their destination, they said.
The deceased included Panchanan Behera (60), Pramod Behera (28), Sudhakar Sahu (55), Antarjami Behera (45), and Souri Behera (35) of Bijadiha, police said.
The driver of the vehicle Patei Rout and another occupant were moved to Cuttack's SCB Medical College Hospital while two other injured being treated at the district headquarters hospital here, they said.
