Five policemen suspended for trying to protect betting accused

Five policemen including an Inspector were today suspended for allegedly trying to hush up a probe against the prime accused in a cricket betting case here, police said.

"Inspector Kamlesh Sharma, Assistant Sub Inspector Balram Singh Tomar and constables Sawant Singh, Ritesh Jat and Satish have been suspended with immediate effect. After stripping them of field duty, the five policemen have been attached to police line," City West Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Khan said.

He said that Rajendra Nagar police station busted betting on a cricket match going on at Nihalpura Mandi area two days ago.

Khan said they later got to know that the five cops were trying to hush up the probe against the prime accused and drop the case against him.
 

After complaint and preliminary investigations, we suspended the policemen, he added.

The SP said his deputy Aditya Pratap Singh is investigating into the complaint further.
