Five year-old run over by train

A five-year-old boy was run over by a train near Dum Dum Cantonment station here which lead to disruption in services as locals staged a protest.

Railway sources said the boy, who was playing in the vicinity, was trying to cross the tracks at around 1 pm when he was hit by the train on Boangaon-down line.

"The boy died on the spot. Locals staged a protest and refused to let go of the body of the boy, who was run over by a local train while crossing the tracks," a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said.

Train services on the Bangaon-down line were restored at around 3.15 PM after GRP officials intervened, he said.
