Flood condition improves in Bihar

The flood situation in Bihar improved today with receding of water in majority of rivers and only two districts are currently under flood waters.

There is no report of any fresh death in inundation triggered by rains in Terai region of neighbouring Nepal, a statement from state Disaster Management Department here said.

Only two districts of Purnea and Katihar remained under flood waters from 14 earlier, it said, adding the death toll remained at 95 as it was on Sunday.

The population hit by flood has also dwindled to 8.46 lakh today as against 33 lakh previously.

Except for Kosi in Baltara in Khagaria district, all rivers flew below danger level today.
 

While the flood has inundated 5.10 lakh hectare area, crops were damaged in two lakh hectare and the authorities are assessing the quantum of losses, the DMD statement said.

The number of relief camps have also come down to 10 where 3,750 people have taken shelter.

A total of 23 country boats and 252 private ones were still rendering services to the marooned people in flood-hit areas, it said.
