Flood waters in Assam entered Cachar district today even as the situation showed signs of slight improvement in four other districts of the state, said an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.

Sonai in Cachar district in Barak Valley was affected by the flood waters, it said.

Meanwhile, many people returned home in the four districts of Chirang, Morigaon, Nagaon and Golaghat in Brahmaputra Valley with flood waters receding, the ASDMA report said.

Around 42,000 people in the four districts remained affected by the deluge, the report said.

River Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district and Kushiyara at Karimganj town were flowing above the danger level, the report said.

Damage to infrastructure has been reported in Kokrajhar with severe erosion of an embankment on Saralbhanga river, the report added.
