Former NCP MP Nivedita Mane and her son Dhairyasheel resigned from the party Wednesday and joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of party chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence 'Matoshree' here.
A Sena source said that Dhairyasheel, a former Zilla Parishad member, may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Hatkanangale constituency.
Nivedita Mane has twice represented the Ichalkaranji Lok Sabha constituency in the past.
"There were reports that (Swabhimani Paksha's) Raju Shetti was the candidate of the grand alliance of Congress, NCP and other parties from Hatkanangale and so Dhairasheel would not get a chance," the source said.
