Pakistan's former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao today escaped a suicide attack after the bomber tried to target his convoy before he was shot dead outside a school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sherpao, the chairman of Qaumi Watan Party, was returning from a public meeting, when the suicide bomber rushed towards his convoy while it was passing through Umerzai area in his home district Charsadda.
When the suicide bomber tried coming close to the former minister, the escorting police officials shot him dead.

However, the explosives attached to his body detonated, killing a policeman. Sherapao remained safe in the attack.
The incident occurred just opposite a government high school.
This is the third suicide attempt on the former interior minister. In the earlier two attacks, nearly 100 people were killed.
