Former policeman, son held with 78 kg opium

A former policeman and his son were arrested with 78 kg of opium husk worth Rs 5 lakh in Sri Ganganagar district, police said today.

Mahaveer Prasad Bishnoi (60) and Ashwini Kumar (19) were arrested for supplying opium husk to Punjab and Rajasthan, DSP Sri Ganganagar Tulsidas Purohit said.

The duo was arrested from their home in Sadhuwali Sri Ganganagar along with the narcotics.

Mahaveer was reportedly sacked from the Punjab Police over his alleged involvement in a similar offence. His son was also arrested in the past for possessing drugs, Purohit said.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the officer said.
