Former village-head shot dead in Varanasi

A 50-year-old former village head was shot dead allegedly bysome unidentified motorbike-borne personsin Chaubeypur police station area here today, police said.

Kailash Yadav was a resident of Ugapur village and was shot dead while returning from market, SP (rural) Ashish Tiwari said.

Yadav was formerly head of the Ugapur village and now his widow is the village-head there.

Irate villagers blocked the Ghazipur-Varanasi road for some hours and cleared the road on assurances that miscreants will be arrested soon, he said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation in the case is on, he said.
