Four arrested for money extortion

Four persons, who allegedly used to extort money from businessmen impersonating as Vigilance department officers, have been arrested, police said today.

The accused have been identified as Sumit Kumar Pandey, Sunil Garg, Satish Malhotra and Rakesh Kumar.

Yesterday, they allegedly abducted a businessman and released him only after an associate paid them Rs 1 lakh, said police.

Pandey was traced on the basis of the registration number of the car in which they had abducted the businessman, police said adding, he and his associates ran an NGO -- Indian Justice Council, located at Ashok Vihar Phase 2 -- for which they were registered as founders.
 

The police are interrogating the accused, trying to ascertain other victims targeted by the gang, police said.
