A total of four candidates, including an independent, today filed their nomination papers for the June 3 by-elections for the reserved Ward No. 21 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

The by-election for this important ward was necessitated by the resignation of elected corporator Anita Behera of BJD, who went on to become the city mayor, both as mayor and corporator late last year over ration card fiasco.

Apart from candidates of the three prominent political parties of the State, independent candidate Bharati Behera has jumped into the fray for the next month's election, which is going to witness a fierce contest between the ruling BJD and opposition Congress and BJP.

While Tulasi Behera of BJD is in fray, the Congress has fielded advocate Gouri Das and BJP has reposed faith on Padmini Behera, who had narrowly lost to Anita Behera in the January, 2014 civic body elections.
