Four die after consuming spurious liquor

Four persons died while six others were hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Ratan Kant Pandey said, "The incident took place in Marauli village. The four persons had consumed the spurious liquor yesterday, and their death was reported today."

The four complained of nausea and blurred vision after consuming the spurious liquor.

"The symptoms suggested they had consumed spurious liquor," the SP said.

Police said nearly half a dozen villagers have been admitted to various hospitals including Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur and district hospital in Kanpur Dehat.

The SP said one person has been arrested in this regard and investigation is on.

 

Police teams have been constituted to nab the culprits including Shyam Balak, who has been named in the FIR lodged with the rural police.

District Magistrate of Kanpur Dehat, Rakesh Singh has ordered a magisterial probe into the matter, an official said.

Samples of liquor have been collected and sent for testing.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced financial assistance of Rs two lakh each to the kin of the deceased, an official statement issued in Lucknow said.
