Four people, including three of a family, were killed and another seriously injured today when an ambulance carrying a body collided with a dumper truck in Chhattisgarh's Raigrah district, police said.

The victims were travelling in the ambulance that was taking the body of a relative, who had died in a rail mishap yesterday in Raipur, to Ranchi.

"The incident occurred in Kodotarai area, when the vehicle collided head on with the speeding dumper truck," Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told PTI.

"Lochan Munda (45), Jeetu Urao (43) and Lalu Urao (40), all members of a family, died on the spot, while ambulance driver Surendra was critically injured and died at a local hospital," the SP said.

The injured person, Prakash Urao (50), has been admitted in a Raigrah hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical, Bhagat said.

A case has been registered against the truck driver, who fled from the spot after the mishap, he said.
