Four members of a family drowns

Four members of a family drowned in a water filled pit created by sand mining at Eeriyur near Kallakurichi in this district today.

Police said two-year-old Padmavadhi fell into the pit while playing in the banks of the Mayura river.

Her mother Pushpa, her grand mother Periyanayaki and aunt Santhi also jumped into the pit to save her, and got drowned.

Police retreived the bodies.
